A condition where reduced blood flow to the heart muscle is caused by coronary artery disease. Presumptive condition for veterans exposed to Agent Orange or radiation, also linked to hypertension and diabetes.

Rating Percentages & Criteria

100% Rating

Criteria: Chronic heart failure, or; during and for three months after initial evaluation following hospital admission for myocardial infarction

60% Rating

Criteria: Workload of greater than 3 METs but not greater than 5 METs results in dyspnea, fatigue, angina, dizziness, or syncope, or; left ventricular dysfunction with an ejection fraction of 30 to 50 percent

  • Significant activity limitation
  • Reduced heart function

30% Rating

Criteria: Workload of greater than 5 METs but not greater than 7 METs results in dyspnea, fatigue, angina, dizziness, or syncope, or; evidence of cardiac hypertrophy or dilatation on electrocardiogram, echocardiogram, or X-ray

Examples:

  • Moderate activity limitation
  • Cardiac changes on testing

10% Rating

Criteria: Workload of greater than 7 METs but not greater than 10 METs results in dyspnea, fatigue, angina, dizziness, or syncope, or; continuous medication required

Examples:

  • Mild limitation
  • On cardiac medications
